OCAD University’s RBC Centre for Emerging Artists & Designers is excited to announce a recruited placement in partnership with wonderMakr for the role of Jr. Creative Technologist.

wonderMakr is a creative technology agency that engineers and develops innovative digital + live experiences for brands, agencies and consumers. At wonderMakr, we explore new technologies, platforms and ideas for our clients. Our sense of wonder is fuelled by more than 20 years in the experiential and event-marketing industry. At wonderMakr, ideas are nurtured, failure is embraced, and success is measured in audible gasps. We ask questions, experiment, play and then perfect the technology until it's ready to be put in front of the most demanding audience: your fans, followers and future customers.

The Jr. Creative Technologist will be responsible for providing the research and development required to support our ideas. You are a creative thinker with the ability to figure out how to bring ideas to life. You are a combination of a mechanical, electrical and computer engineer.

In collaboration with the team, you are instrumental in finding creative uses of technology and assisting in building brand and consumer experiences that are primarily (but not limited to) the experiential marketing, sponsorship activation, sports, entertainment, and other related industries.

We are a casual shop environment where everyone pitches in. The sky is the limit, you can learn as much as you want. We need a go-getter who will tell us how she/he would like to be involved.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Technology

  • Identify, collect and analyse pertinent information for program strategies
  • Assist with prototyping (design and build) of interactive concepts, demos
  • Experiment with various systems, APIs, emerging technologies and other relevant mechanisms for brand and consumer experiences
  • Conduct trial and error tests on new technologies
  • Code and document clearly, with emphasis for maintainability and expandability

Projects & Team Work

  • Passion to see projects through from concept to completion
  • Educate internal and external teams on design process, methods, concepts and design directions
  • Work closely with the other Creative Technologists and other departments to complete tasks and projects
  • Manage all tasks and deadlines assigned to you, consistently delivering on target and on time
  • Assure all projects are completed with the highest level of reliability and aesthetics while maintaining maximized usability and functionality

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A strong desire and ability to use technology to drive creativity
  • Passion for emerging technologies, digital thinking and industry trends
  • Knowledge of multiple programming languages, both low level and high level (TouchDesigner, Python, shell, C, HTML, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, etc.) an asset
  • Proficiency in electronics and electrical fundamentals
  • Hands on experience (general fabrication, woodworking, model making, prototyping, craft skills etc.)
  • Experience in electronics, programming, microcontrollers, and digital fabrication are highly desirable
  • Ability to execute general fabrication tasks in shop environment (good understanding of safely using various power and hand tools)
  • Ability to travel on occasion (within Canada) an asset but not a requirement
  • Strong creative thinking and written communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to self-motivate and take projects from concept through execution
  • Very organized and task oriented

RATE

$22/hour

TERM

Full-time for 12 weeks starting in May 2025.
Exact start date to be determined with the selected candidate.

LOCATION

In-person in Mississauga


ELIGIBILITY

  • Current OCAD U undergraduate students in any discipline who have completed 15+ credits and will be graduating in 2025, 
  • or current OCAD U Master's students

**Priority will be given to applicants who have not previously received a Career Launcher opportunity
